Kobe Bryant in Manila

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant was here in Manila to kick-off his 5-city Asian tour. His Supernatural tour is aimed to promote his new shoe from Nike. I found two good articles on the web about his recent visit.

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer:
People didn’t seem to care that it was only 6 a.m. It didn’t seem to matter either that Nike’s Bonifacio High Street store would only open at 12 noon.

They stood in line for hours in their quest to get their hands on tickets to The Kobe Supernatural Asia Tour Manila. In just 20 minutes, over 2,000 tickets disappeared, claimed by some of the country’s biggest Kobe Bryant fans.

From CNN/Sports Illustrated:
A lot has happened to Bryant since his first trip to Manila a decade ago - three NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers and a rape case that was eventually dismissed but left many wondering about his image.

The Manila public provided an answer. He was even touted as a role model for children, a tag that he didn't try to avoid.

What do these two articles tell us? Here in the Philippines, Kobe Bryant's visit is the closest thing to a Michael Jordan event happening in this corner of the world.
